My Approach

I utilize an integrative approach to working with the mind-body. I have found that it is very difficult to change a pattern without first becoming aware to the inner workings of that pattern. We will start where you are and create a space of safety and compassion. Mindfulness is a skill that brings you into present moment, nonjudgmental awareness so that you are able to develop an observer mind that sees all the intricacies of the pattern that is no longer serving you. The observer mind is then ready to interrupt the pattern over and over again to create a new story. During this process of witnessing your here and now experience, we begin to become acutely aware of the material of ego that gets in the way of living according to our values. This is the sticky stuff that we need to either befriend, master, or slay so that it no longer controls us and we can consciously choose what we ingest–mind, body, soul.

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a foundation to keep us grounded while engaging in the shadow work of the patterns that arise. ACT is a great framework built on establishing contact with the present moment, seeing self as context (as Pema Chödrön said: You are the sky, everything else is just the weather), having clarified values that guide action, defusion from thoughts, and a acceptance for all that simply is–the good, the bad, the ugly. Just as Carl Jung said, “We cannot change anything until we accept it.” Mindfulness without compassion is pointless. Cultivating the practice of gentleness and compassion with self is key for all of this work, and for many, this is the hardest part.

From this base, we can do the really uncomfortable Jungian-informed work that is peeling away the layers that have contributed to suffering. Be it born from family systems, individual ego (the smaller “I” ,“me” thinking), or the collective. We are doing the hard work of creating a healthier ego and a healthier way of relating to the ego so that we can, maybe, one day, see it as simply one part of us and not the whole of us.

We will have an eye and an ear on the rest of the wellness wheel of health: nutrition, movement, sleep, spirituality, friendships, family, career, and the overarching environment you live in. Let’s also not forget our relationship with media and tech. In a world of too much yet not enough, we are often starved for deeper meaning and connection. We will work together to untangle from these harmful patterns to create a sense of a healthy, open, curious, and compassionate presence.

“We deem those happy who from the experience of life have learnt to bear its ills without being overcome by them.”

— Carl G. Jung
